COEUR d'ALENE - The independent, surf folk duo Band of Lovers will be playing Calypsos Coffee and Creamery in Coeur d'Alene from 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

Dave Strumfeld and Sabina Beachdell have been playing venues across the country since last October. With their instruments and belongings in their car, the musicians have traveled to perform at locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, Texas, Florida and back to their home state of New York. They are currently on their second cross-country tour from New York to Washington.

"It only takes a quick glance to see the powerful and innate bond between Dave Strumfeld and Sabina Beachdell, the creative couple behind Band of Lovers," reads the biography on the duo's website, www.bandoflovers.net.

"The two have been linked since 2005, first as friends and now as a nomadic, musical pairing. After a short parting early last summer, the duo reunited with a ukulele, acoustic guitar and a pocketful of ideas begging to branch out into song. Strumfeld's longstanding composing background combined with Beachdell's knack for storytelling evolved into atypical, semi-autobiographical tunes that carry the accessibility of pop, sweetness of folk and unexpected turns of orchestral depth. The pair's complementary voices blend smoothly in harmony, weaving heartwarming and heartbreaking stories into each song."

Band of Lovers regards The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel and The Kinks as musical influences. Strumfeld and Beachdell recently commenced a successful Kickstarter campaign to release their first album, "The EP." Their charismatic Kickstarter video can be viewed on their website.

Calypsos is located at 116 Lakeside Ave. The Band of Lovers performance is free and open to the public.
