Ex-NIC player to join

Gonzaga men's golf team

SPOKANE - Angus "Gus" Montgomery of Middlesbrough, England, who played last year as a freshman at North Idaho College, will join Gonzaga's men's golf team this fall, Bulldog men's golf coach Robert Gray announced Wednesday.

Montgomery, who will be a sophomore, finished tied for 12th, eight strokes off the lead at the 2014 NJCAA Division I golf championship in Burlington, Iowa. He received the Phil Mickelson Award, given to the most outstanding freshman in NJCAA Division I golf.

"We're very excited to have Gus joining our team. His solid ball striking and great touch around the greens will serve him well on the courses we see throughout the season. He's also a solid student and great young man who fits in well with our team and goals at Gonzaga," Gray said.

At NIC, he won three tournaments and finished second three times.
