William Vaughn Uland, 53

| August 19, 2014 9:00 PM

William Vaughn Uland, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014. It is difficult to sum up a person's life in a few short lines, but I will do my best.

Billy was born on April 30, 1961, in Petaluma, Calif., where he was raised. He was part of a large family of three boys and four girls.

During the past 25 years, Bill has lived in and around Post Falls calling this area home. He became a lover of the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing in all seasons. Of all the crazy things, he enjoyed sitting on a frozen lake, the ice moaning and cracking around him while waiting for a nibble or more. Then, as the weather warmed up, bobbing around in his boat on the same lakes waiting for the same outcome. The peace and oneness with the waters (or ice) is something that has to be experienced to understand. For those of you who do, you get it, and for those who don't, don't be afraid to give it a try.

The last year of Bill's life brought him into another kind of family. One that cannot be thanked enough for their strength, constant support and encouragement. The men and women of Northwest Specialty Hospital, along with those at Kootenai Health, did more than a job. You gave of yourselves, and welcomed Billy into your family, giving him all the love and encouragement he needed.

For those of you who worked with Bill, and those I have spoken with, you were another big part of his extended family. He spoke often of you all fondly, happily and yes, even grumpily (if that is a word). He asked that I extend his thanks for your support on and away from the job, especially this past year. You are remembered and will be missed. Watch out though, he's just the sort of guy to sneak one in on you! And you know he'll be smiling that dirty little grin with his dark eyes dancing.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Alfred; and his brothers, David and Donald. Billy is survived by his mother, Carolyn; sisters Ilene, Kathleen, Alice and Ruth; along with many nieces and nephews.

The dynamics of a family change as we grow older, and ours is no different than most, but Bill is still a part of ours. He is loved, and is missed already.

Goodbye my lil' bro, I love you ... Ilene!

Per Bill's request, there will be no service or ceremony. If you would like to do something more tangible, you can honor Bill with a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name, or locally to Northwest Specialty Hospital in Post Falls for their good work and support.

English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Bill's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
