| August 19, 2014 9:00 PM

Richard Martin Chase Chuvala, 74, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Kootenai Health.

Richard was born to Stephen Chuvala and Alma Chase on June 22, 1940, and raised in Danbury, Conn. He was a machinist, and most recently worked for Eemco in Post Falls.

Richard was a kind and gentle person, who gave of himself in the service of others. Often his kind deeds went unnoticed because he did not do them for praise. He loved NASCAR, and was a Jeff Gordon fan. Richard was an avid Spokane Chiefs fan and a regular in the seats. He was a Yankee fan, but after living in LA he converted and became a Dodgers fan. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed gardening and yard work.

Richard was active in his church and with the North Idaho Aids Coalition.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Alma; and recently, his brother Raymond. Richard is survived by his siblings, Ysabel Chuvala, Lynne Kearney, Keith and Kevin Chuvala; and niece Elizabeth Kearney D'Amico.

A memorial service will be held in Richard's honor at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at the Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, Veradale, Wash. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Richard's memory to NIAC, Veradale UCC, or a charity of your choice.
