Kootenai County treasurer, deputy treasurer honored

Kootenai County Treasurer Tom Malzahn was recognized in July by his peers throughout the nation during a gathering in New Orleans of the National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers, and Finance Officers. Malzahn is a past president of the organization and his years of service were noted, as was his upcoming retirement.

The county treasurer's position will be filled by the winner of the Nov. 4 election.

Laurie Thomas, the county's chief deputy treasurer, was recognized earlier this month during the Idaho Association of County Treasurers conference held in Idaho Falls.

Thomas received a distinguished education award for earning more than 200 hours of continuing education.
