Vandal Boosters to host annual celebration Aug. 21

The Spokane and Kootenai County Vandal Boosters and Alumni Chapters will hold the 2014 Inland Empire Vandal Celebration on Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Hagadone Events Center at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course, located at 115 S. Second Street in Coeur d'Alene.

A cocktail and social hour, as well as silent auction starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Special guests include Associate Vice President/Center Executive Officer N.I. Dr. Charles Buck and Paige Riley; Idaho athletic director Rob and Sandy Spear; coaches Paul Petrino, Don Verlin and Jon Newlee; and university deans.

Alumnus Bill Fagerbakke, former Vandal student athlete, voice of Patrick on "SpongeBob SquarePants" and actor who played Dauber on "Coach" will be the master of ceremonies.

Chiefs to play preseason game at Eastern Washington

The Spokane Chiefs announced that their only home preseason game, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 11, will return to Eastern Washington's University Recreation Center.

Spokane will host the Tri-City Americans in Cheney for the second consecutive year, with the game scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Doors will open at 6:05 for fans.

Tickets for the game go on sale beginning on Thursday at all normal ticket outlets, as well as on-site at the URC in Cheney.

The Chiefs' annual Fall Camp begins Thursday at the Spokane Arena.

Cougars sign Jeffery Farrar to financial aid agreement

Washington State football has signed Jeffery Farrar to a Financial Aid Agreement, coach Mike Leach announced. Farrar is immediately eligible and will enroll in classes at WSU later this month.

Farrar, a 6-foot-1, 195 pound, safety from Upland High in Calif., was named an All-Baseline League defensive back after posting 35 tackles and five interceptions, leading his team to the league title and semifinal appearance in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section playoffs.

Offensively, he lined up at receiver and caught 25 passes for 201 yards and capped his senior season by playing for the West team in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, Calif. He was rated a four-star prospect by ESPN.com and a top 300 recruit during his senior year.
