| August 13, 2014 9:00 PM

Marian L. Saddler, longtime resident of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away Aug. 7, 2014, at home.

Marian was born Nov. 8, 1929, in New Market, Iowa, to Lloyd and Mabel Davison Showalter. In 1933 the family moved to the Wenatchee, Wash., area where Marian graduated from Wenatchee High in 1947. Marian worked at Woolworths during her senior year, then moved on to a local bank as a bookkeeper.

On May 13, 1950, Marian married the love of her life, Roy Saddler. Their daughter, Aleta, arrived in December 1951, and a year plus four days later their son, Perry, was born. In 1956, Marian and Roy moved to Sacramento, Calif., then on to Carson City, Nev., where they started a construction company with Marian as the office manager/bookkeeper.

In 1967, Marian and Roy moved to Coeur d'Alene, where Marian helped to build the family home along with Roy and his uncle, Bob Jackson. From 1971 to 1984, Roy worked construction jobs overseas and Marian was able to join him in Vietnam, Sicily, Liberia, Haiti and Ecuador.

Marian loved knitting, needlepoint and cross-stitch, winning ribbons with her entries at the county fair. She was an accomplished seamstress making clothes for the family, and using her sewing skills to re-upholster furniture and make custom drapery for family and friends.

Marian and Roy enjoyed taking their granddaughter, Nita, to fiddle competitions around the northwest U.S. and Canada. They were members of the Old Times Fiddlers Association. They also enjoyed spending the winters in Yuma, Ariz., in the motor home they built out of a Bluebird school bus.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2009; parents Lloyd and Mabel; sisters Margaret Lary, Harriet Smith and Linda Showalter; and brother Don Showalter. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Perry and Arnie Saddler of Spokane Valley, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law Aleta and George English of Coeur d'Alene; granddaughter Nita Joy (Jon) of Spokane Valley; great-granddaughter Lily Joy; step-grandchildren Don English (Patty), Laura Post (Scott), Jaunna Carlson (Steve) and Jake Wood; and several step-great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Hensley (Don) of Wenatchee; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, with burial following at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.
