SPIRIT LAKE - A 26-year-old transient is suspected of stealing credit cards that belonged to a Spirit Lake woman who died of natural causes.

John T. Walker, the son of a housing complex manager in Spirit Lake, allegedly stole the cards while changing the lock where the woman lived, said Keith Hutcheson, Spirit Lake police chief.

No transactions were made on the card, Hutcheson said.

Walker was arrested on Thursday in Lincoln County, Wash., on an unrelated charge.

Hutcheson said Walker's family members there turned in two stolen credit cards to the sheriff's office, which in turn contacted Spirit Lake police. As a result, SLPD on Tuesday requested a warrant for Walker's arrest for grand theft.

He is still being held on previous charges.
