Erika Moorhead, 83

Erika Moorhead, 83, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, lost her battle with leukemia on her birthday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Hospice House of North Idaho.

Erika was born in Munich, Germany, on Aug. 7, 1931, to Josef and Therese (Schwarz) Harlander. She married Air Force Sgt. David M. Morse in 1955 in Munich; they later divorced after 13 years of marriage. Erika moved to the United States in February 1957, and was proud to become an American citizen in 1962.

While living in Atwater, Calif., Erika worked for Farmers Insurance Group for more than 12 years. In 1969, she met "the love of her life," Air Force Lt. Col. Harris "Jack" L. Moorhead. Erika and Jack were married on Sept. 19, 1970, and she became Mom to Jack Jr., Wendy and Richard. Her favorite saying was, "Marrying Jack was the best thing I ever did!"

Erika enjoyed square dancing, fishing, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Therese; sister Ingeborg and brother-in-law Fabian Hopfer. Erika is survived by her husband, Jack, at home; son and daughter-in-law Jack (Harris) Jr. and Connie of Apache Junction, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Kyle Mabe of Post Falls, Idaho; and son and daughter-in-law Richard and Kim of Deer Park, Wash.; stepdaughter Cheryl Cojerean of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren Stephan, Skylar and Taryn Moorhead of Deer Park, Geoff Moorhead (Elizabeth) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kyle Kimbrell (Lisa) of Albuquerque, and Kevin Kimbrell (Joy) of Plano, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial service is at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church, 8134 N. Meyer Road, Post Falls; reception following. Donations may be made in Erika's memory to Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Idaho.
