Dinner Under the Stars event to help Community Garden

COEUR d'ALENE - The sixth annual Dinner Under the Stars, a fundraiser for Shared Harvest Community Garden, will take place Saturday night in the garden at the corner of 10th Street and Foster Avenue in Coeur d'Alene.

Offering live music and a fiesta theme, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with a silent auction. Dinner will be served from 7-9 and will feature food from Cafe Carambola.

Tickets are $25. They can be purchased at two Coeur d'Alene businesses: Art Spirit Gallery, 415 Sherman Ave.; or Java on Sherman, 819 Sherman Ave. Tickets are also available online at www.sharedharvestgarden.org.

Proceeds will benefit the Shared Harvest Community Garden. The garden provides plots on a seasonal basis, and 50 percent of each private plot, as well as all the produce from the communal Roots Garden, is donated to the Community Roots Food Share.

The food share program also collects backyard and fruit tree produce contributed by property owners outside the garden. The food is donated to food banks and other local nonprofits that provide food assistance.

The program collected and distributed 6,715 pounds of produce in 2013.
