Carol June Kurtz, 92

Carol June Kurtz, 92, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away Aug. 6, 2014, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene.

Carol was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Salina, Kan., to Arthur Wallace and Hazel Preston Wallace. Carol moved with her family to Portland, Ore., in the midst of the dust bowl. She graduated from Portland Adventist Academy in Portland, Ore., and then went on to attend Walla Walla College in College Place, Wash., where she met future husband, Arnold Kurtz.

Carol married Arnold in College Place in 1943. They pastored several churches in the Seventh-day Adventist Church for more than 25 years. In 1969 they moved to Michigan. Carol worked as an administrative assistant at Andrews University Theological Seminary for 15 years, where Arnold was a seminary professor. They finally retired to College Place in the early 1990s.

Carol had a lovely clear high soprano voice and she loved singing. She was a member of the church choir at the College Place Village SDA Church and sang duets with her sister. Carol loved people and they loved her. She enjoyed volunteering at Walla Walla General Hospital and in the voting precinct.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arnold, in 2003; parents Arthur and Hazel; and brother Clarence Wallace. She is survived by children Jeanne Munson (Lloyd) of Post Falls, Idaho, Janet Van Der Mei (William) of Folsom, Calif., and Donovan Kurtz (Janie) of Maryland; sister Ruth Lodahl; brothers Preston and Gerald Wallace; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at College Place Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, 715 SE 12th St., College Place, WA 99324. Memorials in Carol's honor may be made to "The Quiet Hour," "It Is Written" or "The Voice of Prophecy."
