Athol Daze set for Saturday

| August 8, 2014 9:00 PM

ATHOL - Athol will be having its 105th Athol Daze summertime community celebration Saturday, beginning with vendors in Athol City Park by 9 a.m. and the annual parade at 10 a.m.

The parade will begin near Athol Elementary School at the east end of Menser Avenue and march west to First Street. The park will be home to plenty of wholesome family- and kid-oriented activities, such as horseshoes, live music, inflatable boxing matches, auctions, prizes and more.

Athol public works director Stephen Williams said this year's festival will include lots of contests.

"The money in the straw is always good," he said, adding that watching kids dive into the straw to dig out quarters is entertainment for all.

"We should be able to have quite a bit of fun," Williams said. "It should be good as long as it's a hot day."

More than 20 food and merchandise vendors will be on site and an old car show will take place at Victory Auto Parts, 5929 E. Highway 54. A beer garden and street dance will also be part of the festival, which ends at 10 p.m.
