Clinics for high school officials upcoming

A state volleyball rules clinic will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene High.

All interested in officiating this year needs to attend this meeting.

Players, auction items still needed for alumni game

The Coeur d'Alene American Legion baseball program will host the first Capaul Classic Memorial alumni games on Saturday at Thorco Field.

Alumni from 2001 an before will play a 7-inning game starting at 4 p.m., followed by a home run derby and the 2002-younger alumni game to follow.

Cost is $30 to play and includes a T-shirt. It is $5 to enter the home run derby.

A silent auction will be held during both games.

North Dakota State edges Eastern for top spot in poll

By the slimmest of margins, North Dakota State is ranked No. 1, just 21 votes ahead of Eastern Washington in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll.

The other major poll - The Sports Network Top 25 - is set to be released on Friday.

The Eagles, who won the 2010 FCS title, received 615 points and six first-place votes and finished third a year ago in the final coaches poll after finishing 12-3 and advancing to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs for the second-straight season.

The three-time defending champion Bison received 636 total votes and were picked as the champions by 18 of 26 coaches who submitted ballots. North Dakota State, whose last playoff loss came in 2010 to Eastern in overtime, were a perfect 15-0 in the 2013 season.
