Alice Dell Zimmerman

| August 6, 2014 9:15 PM

Alice Dell Zimmerman passed away July 27, 2014, at the Gallatin Rest Home in Bozeman, Mont.

Alice was born in Chester, Mont., in 1918. She spent most of her life in Montana and Wyoming. Alice and her husband, Hank, raised three children and taught swimming lessons to many children in the community.

Among the ranchers of Wyoming and Montana, Alice and Hank were well-known for square dancing events — Hank was a top-rated caller and Alice worked the floor, helping dancers with the movements. They also instructed round and folk dancing moves for eager dancers. Many dancing enthusiasts delighted in Hank and Alice’s exhibition dances, especially Alice’s performance of the traditional Scottish sword dance.

Alice also worked for many years as an executive secretary for the Pipeline Transmission Division of MDU in Glendive, Mont.

After retirement, Alice and Hank spent 20 enjoyable years traveling the U.S. in their motorhome. They shared their adventures through delightful letters to their children and grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by Hank, her husband of 64 years; her daughter, Jancey, who died at an early age; and her sister, Betty Dean.

Survivors include her sons, David of Bozeman, Mont., and Jon of Clinton, Miss.; sister Denise of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Elks Cemetery in Sheridan, Wyo., at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service, www.dokkennelson.com.
