MASS.: Sets standard for immigrant kids

| August 3, 2014 9:00 PM

I was heartened and proud of my former home state of Massachusetts for agreeing to accept children from Central America who are fleeing violence, poverty and killings by drug cartels.

Last week, Governor Deval Patrick announced that he will be bringing one thousand of these children to the East Coast. They will be housed at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod upon their arrival.

The governor said he was doing this because we are all immigrants, and the least we can do is welcome these immigrant children to our country. In my opinion it was a magnanimous gesture and I hope that other states will follow his example.
