Mysterious, spooky and hilarious

| August 1, 2014 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - They're creepy and they're kooky, and they're coming to Coeur d'Alene.

"The Addams Family," presented by Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre and directed by Makaela Pollock, will open in the Kroc Center Performing Arts Theater Aug 7.

CST's production will be the first professional regional production of this hilarious new musical. With a toe-tapping score from Andre Lippa ("You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "The Wild Party") and the unforgettable cast of characters, "The Addams Family" is sure to make audiences laugh as well as learn a bit about what it means to be a family.

Wednesday Addams, played by Jessi Little, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met. She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams (Steve Czarnecki) must do something he's never done: Keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia (Christine Riipi). Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents.

The jokes in "The Addams Family" will be appreciated by most kids 8 and older, especially if they are familiar with the TV series or films, but prior knowledge of the characters is not necessary for enjoyment. The show contains some mild bedroom humor.

The production opens at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 with several following evening and afternoon matinee performances through Aug. 24. Tickets are $49 for adults, $42 for senior or military and $27 children younger than 12.
