Things you can do to help your family member with hearing loss to communicate better with those around them.

* Face person directly

* Spotlight your face

* Avoid noisy backgrounds

* Get their attention first

* Ask how you can facilitate communication

* When audio and acoustics are poor, emphasize the visual

* Don't shout

* Speak clearly

* Enunciate

* Don't hide your mouth

* Use facial expressions and gestures
