PHD: Pilgrim's gifts appreciated
Panhandle Health District thanks Pilgrim's Market for its generous donation of five fruit baskets to the women who quit smoking or reduced smoking as a result of PHD's recent tobacco cessation course at the Union Gospel Mission.
PHD taught the four-week tobacco cessation course at the Union Gospel Mission Center for Women and Children in Coeur d'Alene. A recent study published in the Journal of Nicotine and Tobacco Research showed that smokers who consumed four or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day were three times more successful in their attempts to stay tobacco free.
Adults interested in no-cost individual quit-tobacco consultations or group classes can contact Linda Harder, PHD Tobacco Cessation program coordinator at (208) 415-5143 or [email protected].

SILVA: Appreciation to caregivers
On April 11, my mother, Catherine Silva passed away at Kootenai Health. She had been hospitalized for 13 days.
I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to her attending Doctors, RNs, CNAs, student nurses and Care Management, who took care of her for those days. Your professionalism and compassion for not only mother but for our family made a very trying time much easier.
I would like to give a special thanks to the Palliative Care group. Thank you Stacie Bering MD, Toni James RN and Wade See! Your compassion, knowledge and understanding in helping us carry out mother's final wishes will always be remembered. Thank you!
