Thomas L. Lewis, 74
Thomas L. Lewis, 74, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014.
Tom was born May 28, 1939, in Everett, Wash., to Thomas and Dorothy "Dolly" Lewis. He graduated from Everett High School with the class of 1957.
Tom spent 40 years working in radio as a disc jockey, news director, studio engineer, and program director in many stations throughout Washington and California. His last position was in his home town of Everett with Station KWYZ. He was so looking forward to a special high school class reunion taking place this summer when all his classmates would be 75 and have their 57th reunion. What fun they always had together!
Tom married his first wife in 1958, and they had two children: Steven and Lynn, before divorcing in 1970. He married Judi Clins in 1974, and they divorced in 1992. Tom met the love of his life, Joan Lyon, in 1976 and they were married in 1994. They were looking forward to celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on September 6, 2014.
Acting and drama were a big part of Tom’s life. He performed in the Everett Civic Theatre, his most noteworthy part being that of the evil sheriff, Vallon, in a production of Showboat in 1989. Since attending St. Luke’s church in Coeur d'Alene, he was always willing to get on stage in some role in the bi-annual Episcofollies. He was also on the Board of Everett Parks Department for 15 years, serving as President for some time. Plus, he and the radio station were always involved in Salty Seas Days, where he served as Chairman one year.
Tom was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, serving on the Vestry, Facilities Committee and the monthly Newsletter group. He also belonged to the Coeur d’Alene Airport Association where he functioned as vice president, and the Hydromaniacs where he helped announce the races. It was a joy for him to work with all of these groups. But, mostly, he loved retirement, puttering around the house, cheering on the Seattle Seahawks and going places with his wife.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dolly; daughter, Lynn Marie; and uncle, Ted Gehring. He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Steve, of Nebraska; granddaughter, Gabrielle, of Arlington, Wash., sister, Donna Gehring, of Oceanside, Calif., brother and sister-in-law, Raphael "Stubby" and Sharee Lyons, of Seaside, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 2, at St. Luke’s Church, with inurnment following in the church Columbarium immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke’s Church, 501 Wallace, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814. Please visit Tom’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
