North end notes

The economy isn't slacking in North Idaho. Evidence includes the emergence of eight major pieces of business news. We'll announce them by "region" with four this week from the north end of Coeur d'Alene. Next week we'll spread out.

Silver Lake Mall has some major changes with Wiggett's Too moving across the hall from its previous outlet. The new space formerly housed the Pac Sun store.

Wiggett's Antique Marketplace started in 1984 in the old Montgomery Ward building downtown at Fourth and Lakeside. It later relocated to the old Roxie Theatre building at Fourth and Front and added the Silver Lake Mall outlet.

Owners are Johnny and Carolyn Berry with 30 years in the antique business. Silver Lake Mall hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 6 Sundays. Phone 664-1524. or 719-0021. Check www.wiggettsmarketplace.com.

Memory Lane goes independent

Once a part of Wiggett's, Memory Lane has taken the former Wiggett's location in the mall. Lynn and Steve Ricker's business previously was Glitz & Glam.

Memory Lane features jewelry, purses and heirlooms, vintage and estate pieces and furniture. Local artists will offer stained and etched glass, vintage fabric and old photos of the Coeur d'Alene area.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 6 Sundays. Phone 699-1173. Email memorylanecda@outlook.com.

Smokes & Suds in Silver Lake Square

A large selection of wines, micro and craft beers, tobacco, e-cigarettes, pipe tobaccos and a walk-in humidor for cigars fill a bright store for Smokes & Suds and the S & S Wine Cellar in the front location at Silver Lake Square, 6848 Government Way.

Owner Chris Meacham said homebrew and wine-making supplies will soon be added. He came from Lewiston where he has had a Smoke & Suds store for nine years.

"I've always wanted to live in the Coeur d'Alene area so my solution was to open a store here," he said.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturdays and 9 to 9 Sundays. Phone 635-5972.

Platinum Home Mortgage moves

Moving from Lakewood Avenue, Platinum Home Mortgage has opened at 687 W. Canfield Ave. The company also has offices on Hanley Avenue in Coeur d'Alene and Schneidmiller in Post Falls.

Located on the second floor of the Idaho Forest Group building, Platinum hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Phone 667-8795.

Now for the Tidbits

- Unless things and priorities change, next week we'll announce a new CrossFit and Under Cover Boat & RV Storage businesses in Post Falls and CORE Accounting & Consulting and Impac Mortgage in Coeur d'Alene.

- Spokane Teachers Credit Union will have a new location in the Crossroads (Winco) Shopping Center.

- Saddle Up Steakhouse in Athol has added full-time dinners starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Phone 683-0516.

- Cisco's Antiques at Fourth and Coeur d'Alene Avenue is expanding into the building to the south but has closed its store on East Sherman.

- The Culinary Stone will open in Riverstone in November.

- Style note: Time designations of a.m. and p.m. are lower case with periods. The hours of 12 a.m. and 12 p.m. are confusing so just say noon or midnight. You don't need the 0's on an exact hour; write 3 p.m., not 3:00. And "o'clock" isn't necessary.

- A seasonal Toys R Us store is open in Silver Lake Mall.
