A chance for that first victory

The best chance for a victory for Idaho's football team (0-4) might be today, when the Vandals play host to Temple (0-3) in their homecoming game at the Kibbie Dome.

A scan of a few college football power rankings lists both teams near the bottom, with Idaho usually a few slots lower than the Owls.

But while the Vandals, in general, have shown improvement over its first four games, first-year Temple coach and former Owls assistant Matt Rhule said he was "embarrassed" by his team's effort two weeks ago, in a 30-29 loss to Fordham.

The Owls were idle last week, and Rhule made several changes to the starting lineup for today's game, in general moving some younger players up the depth chart, including a pair of freshmen who are expected to start at offensive guard today.

"We're going to make sure that whoever we put on the field is committed to play all-out Temple football," Rhule said. "And the ones that aren't, aren't going to play anymore."

"We played them when I was at Louisville," Idaho coach Paul Petrino said of Temple. "They're just a bunch of big, physical, tough kids. They have a real big defensive line. They could have won both of their last two games if they could have made a field goal."
