Cardinal men score twice late to win

| September 23, 2013 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Rodger Bucknor and Adam Talley scored on counterattacks in the waning minutes as the North Idaho College men's soccer team beat the Gonzaga club team 2-0 on Sunday at Eisenwinter Field.

"They were very organized defensively; they were organized, and they were patient," NIC coach Ken Thompson said of the visitors. "The longer we went without scoring, the more impatient we grew."

With the GU club team attacking late in the game, NIC cleared the ball to Christian Botuli, who fed ahead to Rodger Bucknor on the right side. Bucknor beat one defender and scored from about 14 yards out.

Moments later, on the counter, Isaiah Van Voorhis dribbled some 30-40 yards down the left side. Talley charged down the middle of the field, and redirected Van Voorhis' pass past the keeper from right in front of the goal.

"Good to win two in a row," said Thompson, whose team beat the University of Idaho club team 6-2 on Saturday. "Good to have the perserverance to score two late goals."
