Elizabeth Louise Owens, 105

Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Owens went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 16, 2013 from Coeur d'Alene Homes. Betty was born on Nov. 11, 1907 in Volga, SD to Robert and Kittie (White) Henry. She graduated from Volga High School and attended South Dakota State University. In 1928 she married Frank Kelley and lived in Pierre, SD where they owned a drugstore and she worked at the South Dakota State Capitol. In 1936 she divorced and moved to Minneapolis, MN to work for the Chief National Bank Examiner. In 1939 she transferred to Kansas City, MO marrying Edward F. Owens in 1942. During WWII Betty worked at a war plant in Kansas City in the accounting office. Betty and Eddie were a part of twenty Episcopalian communicants who founded the St. Matthews Episcopal Church of Raytown, MO. Betty was also active in the Children's Mercy Hospital Club in Kansas City, serving as President. Betty and Eddie moved to English Point on Hayden Lake, ID in 1960. She worked for her brother at the Lloyd Henry Insurance Agency of Coeur d'Alene. In 1975, they moved into Coeur d'Alene. Betty has been an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church since 1960. She also belonged to St. Luke's Guild, Daughters of the Nile, P.E.O. and she volunteered at the LaCrosse Health and Rehabilitation Center for over 25 years. Betty is survived by nieces and nephews and their families: Loren Henry of Phoenix, AZ; John "Jack" Towers of Oakbrook, IL; Robert "Bob" Henry of Butte, MT; Larry Henry of Denver, CO; Catherine Heim of Tampa, FL; Jo Ann Vodegel of Ashby, MN; Patrick Henry of Pinehurst, NC; Robert Owens of Destin, FL; Linda Owens Hivert of Garnerville, NV; and the families of Ruth Deitz (deceased) and Donald Henry (deceased). Special friends June and Del Gittel and family of Coeur d'Alene. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Owens in 1985 and her six brothers, two sisters, and their spouses. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coeur d'Alene Homes at 624 W. Harrison Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID, 83814 or to St. Luke's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund at 501 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID., 83814. A Memorial Service will be held on Sat. Nov. 9th at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave. in Coeur d'Alene, time is yet to be determined.
