Howard Pierce, 89

Howard Raymond Pierce, 89, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho passed away Tuesday September 17th, 2013 at Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 24th, 1924 to Willard and Hazel (Mills) Pierce. He grew up in East Providence, RI with his brother Bill and sister Dorothy and graduated from East Providence High School in 1942. He served in the military in the Army Medical Corps and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the military he served an apprenticeship in tool-and-die fabrication. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Sharp in 1949 in Rumford, RI., passing one week short of their 64th wedding anniversary. Howard and Betty moved to Garden Grove, California in 1951, and he and a partner started a business which later became California Industrial Products. They specialized in manufacturing auto parts for use in Detroit. He retired from CIP in 1970 and moved to Coeur d'Alene Idaho. He managed Appleway Super Shell station for a number of years and then started his own engraving business known as Northwest Nameplate. Howard had a lifelong passion for boats, and spent much spare time on the water. He also enjoyed flying small planes. Besides his wife Betty, he leaves a brother Willard, Jr. of Rumford, Rhode Island, two sons, Kenneth of Coeur d'Alene and Steven of Post Falls, a daughter Sheila (Jerry) Wooley of Clarkston, WA and two grandchildren Corey and Kaitlyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 20th at 2:00 pm at English Funeral chapel in Coeur d'Alene with small reception following.
