Mueller's hat trick leads Post Falls past Lewiston

POST FALLS - Timmy Mueller had three second-half goals and assisted on another in the first half to lead the Post Falls Trojans past the Lewiston Bengals 4-0 in a 5A Inland Empire League match Tuesday.

"I thought we started a little slow," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "There was lots of rain and wind and just really treacherous conditions. We were going with the wind in the first half, and I thought we'd put together a few more goals, but it was a rough game. Lewiston is a very physical team. Conditions weren't ideal for playing soccer today and the wind was really the killer."

Sam Enfield had a goal and assist for Post Falls (4-1, 1-0 5A IEL), which travels to St. George's on Thursday.

Lewiston is 2-5, 0-3.

OROFINO - Dillon Cox scored four goals Tuesday, Ryan McNulty scored two and the Lumberjacks beat the Maniacs in Intermountain League play.

St. Maries (3-3, 3-1 IML) also had two goals from Thomas Cook, and Zach Hills and Matt Hodgson each scored once.

St. Maries plays Saturday against Valley Christian at home.

LEWISTON - Olivia Miller had a goal and an assist in the second half to lead the Trojans past the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Walker Field.

"It was a long drive for us," Post Falls coach Briggs Anderson said. "When we got down there, we had some lightning delays and we played the entire game in the rain. It was a sloppy, windy, cold game, but we kind of woke up in the second half and kept possession of the ball and it worked for us."

Post Falls (5-1, 1-0 5A IEL) will host Lake City in a rematch of the state 5A championship match on Saturday at noon.

Lewiston is 0-3 in league.

COEUR d'ALENE - Savannah Hoekstra scored the go-ahead goal with seconds remaining to lift the Bears past the Timberwolves in a nonleague match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

"Central Valley is one of the toughest teams we'll play all year," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "We played well, but shouldn't have given up a goal in the last second."

Camryn Wendlandt gave Lake City a 3-2 lead in the 53rd minute, but Hoekstra added two more goals in the second half to seal the win.

"We were able to take the lead, but just didn't hold on," Ruchti said. "We really need to concentrate on what we do in the second half."

Maddi Ward had two goals for Lake City (2-2-1), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lake City High football field.

COEUR d'ALENE - The host Vikings took 17 shots on goal, but were unable to connect in a nonleague loss to the Bears at Coeur d'Alene High.

"We actually looked really good," Coeur d'Alene coach Andy Vredenberg said. "We dominated play and had 70 percent of the possession, but just couldn't get it in the back of the net. We made three mistakes on defense, and they capitalized each time."

Coeur d'Alene (1-5) travels to Lake City on Thursday at 6 p.m.

SPIRIT LAKE - In a game played in a light drizzle in the first half and a consistent rain in the second, the visiting Badgers scored midway through the first half of the Intermountain League game.

Timberlake dropped to 0-7, 0-5 IML.

"We're a young team that's rebuilding and retooling, but the girls didn't let down, they kept working," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said.

No other details were provided.

Timberlake plays host to Priest River next Tuesday.

KELLOGG - Abby Bartlett had two assists and Jackie Jensen six saves for the Panthers, which beat the Wildcats in an Intermountain League match at Teeters Field.

Emily Osborne-Moss, Katie Baxter and Johanna Ramb had goals for Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-1-1, 5-0 IML), which hosts Rogers today at 4:30 p.m. at Community Methodist Church Field.

The game was delayed for 45 minutes in the second half due to lightning in the area.

"This was a really big game for us because it puts us in a strong position in the league), Coeur d'Alene coach Dave Baxter said. "The girls got out of the cars flying and were ready to play and shook off the rain like it wasn't even there. I was very pleased with how they played today."
