Sandpoint second at Lakeland invite

RATHDRUM - For the second straight week, Sandpoint and Lewiston squared off for a tournament, with Lewiston emerging victorious again, this time 25-13, 25-8 at the 24-team Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

Mead and La Jolla (Calif.) tied for third.

Lake City finished fifth overall in the eight-team championship (gold) bracket. Post Falls tied for seventh.

Brenna Meehan had 30 kills for the tournament as Post Falls (2-6) finished 2-3 in the tournament. She also had four blocks and 10 service aces.

"I thought we improved since our last matches," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We won our pool and got into the gold bracket. We had a lot of good things today. We played good offense and scrappy defense."

Lydea Schneider had 39 assists in the tournament for Post Falls. Amy Booth finished with 23 digs. Jamie Brewer and Kiah McGowan both had four blocks

Post Falls plays Tuesday at home against Coeur d'Alene.

Alli Williams finished the day with 12 aces for Coeur d'Alene, which finished third in the silver bracket. Megan Ramseyer led the team in kills.

"Our starting senior middle blocker Sydney Williams was on an official visit to the University of San Diego, so we were able to take a look at different lineups," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "This tournament was a great experience for our younger players."

Charter third at Spartan Spikefest

ROSALIA, Wash. - Taylor Garn had 48 assists for the Panthers, which defeated LaCrosse-Washtunca 21-25, 25-8, 15-8 for third place in the Spartan Spikefest.

Coeur d'Alene Charter beat host Rosalia 25-15, 25-20, beat Valley Christian 25-22, 27-25 and lost to Liberty 25-18, 26-24 and Colton 25-13, 25-11, and split a match with Lacrosse-Washtunca 23-25, 25-20 in pool play.

"The girls really came together today," Coeur d'Alene Charter assistant coach Tera Armstrong said. "They played their game and just played really well. They should be proud."

Libby Goodwin had seven aces, Anna Verhaeghe 26 kills and eight digs and Stephanie Konciela eight blocks for Coeur d'Alene Charter (5-7), which faces the Timberlake junior varsity on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic School.

Flathead Valley

COEUR d'ALENE - Grace Gipson had eight aces as the Royals beat the Flathead Valley Home School Association 25-14, 25-9, 25-8 in a nonleague match at Venture High School.

Liz Bookamer had five kills, Breanna Clemans seven assists and Sydney Lawson three blocks for North Idaho Christian (3-1), which travels to face Upper Columbia Academy on Monday in Spangle, Wash.
