| September 13, 2013 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene police received four calls into the Kootenai Dispatch Center Thursday that came from separate senior assisted-living and retirement centers.

Employees at the centers said callers posed as Avista Utilities representatives. The callers told the businesses that they were behind on their payments and needed to provide credit card information in order to be current in their billing.

Avista confirmed to police that no one from Avista's offices had made the calls.

The businesses targeted were Life Care Center, Northstar Retirement Community, Pacifica Senior Living and Bristol Heights Assisted Living.

None of these businesses provided information to the caller. Businesses and individuals are targets of this scam.

Citizens are reminded to use caution, and not to give out personal information such as banking and credit card numbers.
