LEWISTON - Ryan Swallow snuck behind the defense on a throw-in by Parker Nordham in the 86th minute and scored the go-ahead goal as the visiting Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lewiston Bengals 2-1 in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both Thursday at Walker Field.

"It was a difficult game for us getting off the bus," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "It was 97 degrees down here and we didn't get off the bus well, but the guys stuck with it. It was just one of those days where we couldn't connect on that final pass. I'm just proud of them for sticking with it."

Kade Murphee scored the tying goal in the 50th minute for Lake City (3-0), which hosts Moscow on Saturday.

Lewiston is 2-3.

First half - 1, Lew, Tony Ponzini (penalty kick), 11:00. Second half - 2, LC, Kade Murphee (Garrett Harrison), 50:00. 3, LC, Ryan Swallow (Parker Noordham), 86:00.

RATHDRUM - Matt Hulquist split the Hawks' center backs, ran down a pass and beat onrushing keeper Cade Coffey to the near post from 12 yards out in the 70th minute for the go-ahead goal for the Vikings (4-0-1) at Rotary Field.

"The last 10 minutes they upped their intensity, and we didn't match it," Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said.

It was the teams' third meeting in 17 days. Coeur d'Alene won the first two games by 2-0 scores.

"I thought this was by far our best game vs. Coeur d'Alene," Craig said. "We matched them intensity wise (until the end), which we didn't do the last two games, and we were more balanced. From 2-0 to 2-0 to a 2-1 game that was evenly matched, I was really happy."

On Saturday, Coeur d'Alene opens 5A Inland Empire League play at home vs. Lewiston, and Lakeland (2-5) is home vs. St. George's.

First half - 1, LL, Austin Garitone (penalty kick), 20:00. 2, Cd'A, Devin Kohles (Matt Hulquist), 25:00. Second half - 3, Cd'A, Hulquist, 70:00.

Shots on goal - Cd'A 7, LL 4.

Saves - Cd'A, Garrett Boyce 3, LL, Cade Coffey 5.
