Big weekend of racing set for Cherry Hill Park

COEUR d'ALENE - The King & Queen of the Hill, and the Idaho state championship final weekend is scheduled for this Friday through Sunday on the BMX track at Cherry Hill Park.

On Sunday, the King & Queen Of Cherry Hill BMX 2013 will be determined.

Chiefs reassign six players to their home clubs

SPOKANE - The Spokane Chiefs have reassigned six players back to their home clubs as they prepare for their second preseason tournament of the season this weekend in Kennewick, Wash. The team is now carrying 30 players, including three goaltenders, 16 forwards and 11 defensemen.

15-year-olds Jeff Faith, Taylor Ross and Jake Toporowski were all reassigned after their first WHL training camp experience. Faith and Ross both return to Notre Dame Bantam AAA (Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League) while Toporowski returns to Chicago Mission (High Performance Hockey League). 16-year-old rookies Jordan Henderson (Vancouver NE Chiefs Midget, British Columbia Midget Hockey League) and Curtis Miske (Leduc Midget AAA, Alberta Midget Hockey League), as well as 17-year-old goaltender Trevor Martin (waiting for assignment) were also reassigned.

Two 1997-born players remain on the squad including defenseman Evan Fiala, the Chiefs' first-round bantam selection in 2012, and goaltender Tyson Verhelst of Brandon, Manitoba.

Spokane native Keanu Yamamoto, who registered a team-high four points (all assists) in Everett, also remains with the club.

The Chiefs head to the Toyota Center in Kennewick on Friday for two games in the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament, hosted by the Tri-City Americans. Spokane faces Kootenay on Friday at 3 p.m. and Tri-City on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Chiefs will host Tri-City in their only home preseason game of the year on Sept. 11 at Eastern Washington University's University Recreation Center in Cheney.

EWU's Adams honored as Sports Network national player of the week

Eastern Washington University sophomore quarterback Vernon Adams was selected by The Sports Network as its NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Offensive Player of the Week after leading the fourth-ranked Eagles to a 49-46 victory over 25th-ranked Oregon State from the Pac-12 Conference foe last Saturday.

Adams, from Pasadena, Calif., finished with a school-record 518 yards of total offense in the win over Oregon State. He had four touchdown passes and rushed for two TDs, and scored the winning points with a 2-yard run with 18 seconds to play.

SWX to televise four Whitworth football games

SPOKANE - Four of Whitworth University's home football games will be carried live on local cable station SWX (Channel 6.2 over the air, channel 306 Time Warner Cable) this fall.

The four games to be carried live by SWX are Sept. 14 vs. Whittier at 1:30 p.m.; Sept. 21 vs. La Verne at 1 p.m.; Oct. 19 vs. Linfield at 1 p.m. and Nov. 9 vs. Pacific Lutheran at 1 p.m.
