Lakeside knocks off Cd'A Charter in five

PLUMMER - Avery Brown-Sonder had 10 digs as the Lakeside Knights defeated the visiting Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy Panthers 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 15-12 in a nonleague match Tuesday night.

Cailyn Dohrman had six aces and five blocks and Alexis Seim had three aces and three blocks in the season opener for Lakeside, which travels to Kootenai next Tuesday.

"Both Cailyn and Alexis had an exceptional night at the net," Lakeside co-coach Karyn Stockdale said. "We had some outstanding defensive coverage from Talia Hendrickx and Francine Hendrickx. They ran nonstop for five games."

Anna Verhaeghe had seven kills, three blocks and four digs, Stephanie Konciela six aces and five kills and Carrington Rinehart three digs for Coeur d'Alene Charter (0-2), which hosts Mullan on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

"It was a really great game," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Krista Brand said. "The girls showed a lot of determination to come back and win two games after losing the first two. We're looking forward to playing them again on our turf."

PRIEST RIVER - Kelsey Auer had nine assists and an aces for the Lumberjacks, who lost to the Spartans 25-21, 25-11, 25-17 in the nonleague volleyball season opener for both schools.

"I didn't expect we would come in and win, I just asked that we come in and compete tonight," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "We're inexperienced, but showed great heart and attitudes, so overall I was pleased."

St. Maries travels to the Lewiston tournament on Saturday.

Molly French had 10 digs for Priest River, which travels to Kellogg on Tuesday.

COEUR d'ALENE - The host Vikings scored two goals in the second half to beat the Hawks in a nonleague match.

Devin Kohles scored on an assist in the 45th minute and Matt Hulquist scored on an assist from Tristan Gisclair in the 58th for Coeur d'Alene (2-0-1), which hosts Sandpoint on Thursday.

"We were definitely disappointed with our first half effort," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "We were real flat as a team and coaching staff in the first half, but were really happy with how we came out in the second half."

Cade Coffey had nine saves for Lakeland (1-3), which hosts Lake City on Thursday.

PRIEST RIVER - Jesse Suchoski scored four goals for the Lumberjacks, which scored six of their seven goals in the second half to beat the Spartans in their season opener.

"The difference between the first and second half was getting some game time under our belt. We're a young team, but settled in the second half," St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. "He (Suchoski) is a good player. His movement was good out there, he showed patience, and gets others involved."

Ryan McNulty, Thomas Cook and Jacob McGregor had one goal each for St. Maries, which travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.

SANDPOINT - Natalie Goetz drove the length of the field and passed the ball to Abby Bartlett, who scored in the 66th minute for the Panthers, which played to a tie against the Bulldog junior varsity at Centennial Field.

"It was a very good game," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said. "It was another fast, well played game. They're a good opponent for us. They've got great speed and I wish we could play them a few more times."

Violet Plummer scored in the 71st minute for the Sandpoint JV.

Coeur d'Alene Charter (3-0-1) travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.
