Alpaca socks help you stay healthy
The wind was really blowing last night while we were out at the barn and my warm alpaca socks kept me cozy while tending to the animals.
Forget the itchy wool socks that we remember from our childhood. Alpaca is the next step up from wool with its unique characteristics. It has no lanolin, which traps allergens in the fiber and often causes allergic reactions. Alpaca fiber is much thinner and smoother than wool, so there is much less chance it can poke your sensitive skin and give you that "prickly" feeling that we often feel when wearing wool.
I wore my alpaca socks last weekend as I ran the 10K in the inaugural Hayden Marathon. The weather was perfect for the event! With no wind at the 9 a.m. start, I could feel the crisp fall air hitting my cheeks as I began the run, and my feet were toasty due to the natural insulating abilities of my alpaca socks. As I finished the run, my feet were still comfortable and blister-free since the socks are great at wicking out moisture and keeping my feet dry. I can still jog as I get older because I make a point to exercise regularly and eat mostly fresh food. It takes a little longer to prepare the fresh stuff but I find if I plan ahead, I can always make a nutritious meal in under an hour. So the combination of natural fiber alpaca socks to keep me outside and fresh food to keep me energized make for a great combination to stay healthy.
As the winter approaches, it is easy to put up the running shoes until spring when the weather warms up. Be sure to make time for exercise all year because your health is important, and being healthy will help you reach your goals. So... put your Alpaca socks on and go for a run! You'll be happy you did.
