FEDS: Remember, you work for us

| October 23, 2013 9:33 PM

Last Thursday was a great North Idaho fall day, so I thought I would ride my scooter down to the BLM park on Blackwell Island. I enjoy speaking with the fishermen returning or just enjoying the beauty. But to my surprise the gate was closed with a sign saying the government shutdown as the reason. Since this is an unmanned site, I scratched my head a little. What, no one to clean the pit toilets? Perhaps it would not hurt if admissions box was not emptied every day or lock the toilets.

I would like to know who decided to close this land that belongs to us? I think it probably produces revenue for our government since it is a pay site. Should the BLM be held responsible by the folks that have purchased passes to use the park? They have an expectation for it to be open; they have already paid for the use. I think sometimes our government servants forget who they work for and who the land belongs to. It’s not the BLM’s land but the people’s land!
