CHALLENGE: Step up for these kids

I read on the front page of the Coeur d’Alene Press’ Oct. 10 edition about some seventh- and eighth-graders who attend Lake City Junior Academy and how their fundraising money was taken (stolen?) by a travel agent.

This money was to be used for a trip to our capitol. What a great educational experience for these kids. Not Disneyland. Not Knotts Berry Farm, mind you, but to our capitol. The money was raised after extensive efforts by the kids.

I called the school to see if our community had made the kids whole. While there were a few donations, the money was but a mere fraction of what the kids had lost. Really, Coeur d’Alene?

I went to the school to give them a check. To be honest I thought they would be overflowing with money from our great city. I couldn’t believe my ears when I found out that we pretty much ignored this situation. Shame on you. Let’s show these kids how great a community they live in. Lake City Junior Academy is located at 111 E. Locust. Their principal is Ron Jacaban. Their phone number is 667-8077.
