ACA: Here's how drama can play out

| October 9, 2013 9:00 PM

The Democrats like to claim the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare is the law of the land, and Republicans just have to learn to live with it. It was passed by Congress and signed into law by Barack Obama. But that’s not really true, is it? The Obama administration is attempting to implement Obamacare/Revision 17. There are at least 17 changes to the law that the Dems are attempting to enforce, and many of the changes are significant. A classic case of bait and switch.

House Republicans should approve a continuing resolution that funds Obamacare in full, but which is explicitly subject to a requirement that the Obama administration enforces all provisions of the ACA law, as written, without waivers and as required by law, unless and until the law is legally modified or repealed by our government.

That would unite the two opposing camps within the Republican Party and would hold Dems responsible for Obamacare during the 2014 elections. Even Democrats might get behind repealing Obamacare once it starts to take serious bites out of jobs and our economy.

If the Democrats in the Senate vote against such a continuing resolution, they will be voting against enforcing a law they themselves enacted (without a single Republican vote) and which was signed by Obama. In this event, House Republicans should refuse to budge and should shut down the federal government for good until Democrats agree to enforce the law they crammed down the throats of all Americans or repeal it.

It’s a bitter pill, but probably the only remedy for the illness known as Obamacare.
