ENDORSE: Pick these for balance

| October 6, 2013 9:00 PM

“Omne Trium Perfectum”… a Latin phrase roughly translating to good things come in threes. You know, like The Three Stooges, the Three Little Pigs and Goldilock’s Three Bears.

Oddly, this directly relates to the upcoming City Council elections and my long-awaited candidate endorsements. The Reagan Republicans have their “three” in Mary Souza for mayor, along with Noel Adam and Chris Fillios for Council. Balance North Idaho’s PAC “threesome” includes Steve Widmyer for mayor alongside Kiki Miller and Amy Evans for Council. Not surprisingly, the candidate yard signs littering front lawns all over town follow suit in these same sets of “three.”

Had a “Eureka!” moment watching the candidate forum the other night — true political BALANCE for our future City Council lies in “twosomes,” not “threesomes.” My endorsed “twosomes” are loosely arranged by ideology, but equally by the potential for thoughtful debate and pure entertainment value they will bring to future Council meetings. I have taken the editorial liberty of assigning monikers to my “twosomes.”

My City Council and mayoral endorsements follow:

The McEuen Rough Riders

• Dan Gookin (incumbent)

• Steve Adams (incumbent)

The Mainstreamers

• Chris Fillios (Seat No. 2)

• Kiki Miller (Seat No. 6)

The Wild Cards

• Woody McEvers (Seat No. 4)

• Ron Edinger (incumbent)

The People’s Tiebreaker

• Mary Souza (Mayor)

Good balance…Good theater…Hopefully, wise governance.

And finally, a big shout out to the Coeur Group for a beautifully run candidate forum.
