HEALTH CARE: A lie is still a lie

| November 27, 2013 8:00 PM

I would like to respond to a letter by Gary A. Edwards published Nov 14. The title of the letter is “Blame in the Wrong Direction,” the premise being it was OK for Obama to lie because the ends justify the means.

By design — this deceit provided the necessary coverage to decimate the individual insurance market causing millions to be cast from their insurance plans into frustrating state exchange “risk pools” — if that is so great why lie?

This letter purports that the real problem is with insurance providers and employers laying off employees and canceling polices. In reality, this is due to ACA regulations intended to drive policy holders into state exchanges which was added by HHS under direct supervision of the Obama Administration. The insurance companies are just doing what the law requires and employers will do what is necessary to avoid the excessive penalties.

Mr. Edwards states that “it was pressure from Republicans and Insurance companies” that resulted in the current Obamacare plan. Really? Republicans had no voice in drafting the legislation, the Democrats held Congress, not a single Republican voted for the act, and many fought against its implementation trying to curb what we see happening today — not a single Democrat supported them.

Dishonesty in matters of grave importance like the country’s entire health-care system needs to be given serious consideration. I believe this may have more to do with elections and legacy than the good of the American people.
