HOLIDAY: Toast giver of the feast

In Wednesday’s paper, in the funnies section, Tucker (a character in the comic strip Deflocked, by Jeff Corriveau) asked, “I don’t understand this whole ‘Thanksgiving’ holiday. I mean who is it we are really ‘thanking’?”

The dog, obviously using all the wisdom a dog possesses, claimed that we were not thanking anyone in particular. I just felt that I needed to remind everyone that dogs (and apparently Jeff Corriveau) don’t know everything. The answer is: We are thanking God! It is the one day of the year that we set aside to give thanks to God for our bounty. It seems to me that people need to be reminded of this more and more lately.
