Pull together, each other
Nothing splinters a community more than politics.
And nothing brings it back together more than charitable works.
Thank goodness, this rancorous political season is immediately followed by the joyous holiday season. The timing in North Idaho just couldn't be better.
Starting Tuesday, The Press will accept applications for its 28th annual Press Christmas for All holiday program. Kootenai County families struggling to make ends meet for Christmas - they don't have money for presents for the kids or a good meal on Christmas Day - can fill out an application for assistance at The Press, 201 Second St. in downtown Coeur d'Alene, or at Post Falls City Hall in the Parks and Rec department. They can also be filled out online at christmasforallcda.com.
That doesn't mean the fundraising program is being launched quite yet. As we have every year for more than a quarter of a century, we'll ask readers for their help starting the day after Thanksgiving.
Meantime, another holiday looms closer. Numerous churches, civic groups and a new charitable organization, Turkeys for All, are determined not to let a single Kootenai County resident go without a feast of thanksgiving on Nov. 28.
Speaking of Turkeys for All, they need your help. With the best slogan we've heard in ages - "We give people the birds" - how can you resist? Make out a check to Turkeys for All and mail it to 213 N. Lakeview Drive, Coeur d'Alene, 83814. It's tax deductible. You can also stop by any branch of Panhandle State Bank and advise the teller you wish to make a donation. More info: turkeysforall.org

Independents, Republicans, Democrats and every political flavor in between can lend a hand. Doing unequivocal good builds strong communities, and there's no better time for a healthy reconstruction project than right now.
