LAND USE: Own up to lost money

| November 8, 2013 8:00 PM

“There you go again.”

Remember it was Ronald Reagan who said that to his political adversaries during his campaign for the presidency. It resonated with the public then, and it will again over the new Land Use Policy. Our county commissioners used taxpayer dollars to the tune of $500,000 to foist upon us something we neither asked for or wanted. If that wasn’t enough of a boondoggle, another $150,000 was spent to fix or repair that which they deemed so necessary for the county.

Politicians are always telling the voter about all the things they will do for the taxpayer, but seem to disappear into the woodwork after they are elected. That is what happened insofar as the Land Use Polity is concerned. Instead of hiring a company outside Idaho, why didn’t they spend their time going out into their districts and asking the taxpayer what they really wanted regarding any land use changes? That would have come under the purview of their existing salaries instead of adding bad money after more bad money, and would have generated a plethora of good ideas rather than the abomination they signed us all up for. They might have found out we didn’t want any changes at all. Who is going to replace the $650,000 that has already been poured down a political black hole? Shouldn’t the commissioners be liable for some or all of that wasted money? In the real world someone would have been fired or sued to recover those funds.

Remember this come time to vote, and just remember we elected these people. They expect us to suck it up and move on to the next screw-up they create.
