TEACHERS: Try not to lose them

| May 19, 2013 9:00 PM

Upon reading the teacher negotiations, it is very disturbing. I am almost 70 years old and raised in Idaho. I am not proud of Idaho’s good old boys politics. Idaho politics are sill the same and still in a prehistoric realm. I say this because of Idaho politics, our state ranks 50th (last) in wages and 49th in teacher salaries. We have been fortunate, even after all this, to have mostly good, hard-working, dedicated teachers.

It looks to me like this area will lose a lot more good teachers. They will just go work in Washington, where a majority of our citizens work and can make a decent living, our kids and my grandkids will lose out again.

I just wonder: Idaho has 6 percent sales tax and state income tax, yet the services we receive are poor at best. Wonder where the money goes!
