THAW: The truth matters

Thank you for the article on the video “The Thaw.” When I first read of the circumstances that were purportedly behind the making of the video — the homework assignment — I was astounded but as I checked into it there was no proof as to it happening. After reading the article, I see less proof that this assignment was given to these students. What I see is an environment of liberty allowing freedom to observe as each student wishes. I’m sure there are some students who may tease others but this is the way kids are and it doesn’t speak of an intolerant community but of the immaturity of youth.

Many feel we need to get back to the founding fathers’ ideals of Christianity ruling this great nation of ours. As I read history I see the opposite. Our founding fathers wanted a nation free from the tyranny experienced in Europe. Europe for centuries had been under the rule of absolute monarchs, corrupt popes and at times Sharia law in portions of southern Europe held by Islam. They wanted to form a nation free of the tyrannies associated with that. I am a Christian and it is my responsibility to share my faith and not my government’s mandate. When false and shadowy accusations are made such as these, it hurts all Christianity and is an undeserved black eye for the community of Coeur d’Alene.
