PAPPAS: Added another convert

| May 15, 2013 9:00 PM

Well lo and behold — a column from Jimmy Pappas with which I can wholeheartedly agree at least up to 90 percent or more. The only issue with which I take partial exception is abortion regarding which he states that he will stand aside since he’s never faced an unwanted pregnancy. That reminds me of the radical feminist who stated in response to a letter of mine that I had no say on abortion since I could not be a mother. To me that’s the same as saying that I can’t condemn the Nazi holocaust because I’m not a Jew. The issues are identical in that one can and should speak up about any such horrifying treatment of another group and especially one that cannot speak for itself.

I see also from his column that Mr. Pappas is Greek Orthodox. Since the three most recent Popes and the Orthodox Patriarchs have been working hard to get back together and progress seems to be taking place we might one day find ourselves rubbing elbows in the same pew (but not, I fear, at the polls). After all we’ve been apart since 1472 or thereabouts.

In any case, well done, Mr. Pappas.
