OUTDOORS: It's better minus noise

| May 8, 2013 9:04 PM

In his letter May 1, Jay Martin bemoans the closing of so many forest roads. Most of us, I think, share his frustration over those damnable gates, making it harder to enjoy, as he puts it, “the wildlife and beauty of our back country.”

But, of course, another person’s idea of enjoyment ain’t necessarily mine. From certain references he makes I take it that he and his family like to rev their engines, whatever they’re powering—” four wheel drive…dirt bike or jeep.” Well, I have a suggestion. He might consider outfitting his family in hiking boots. Anyone can get around those gates on foot. Besides which, they’re cheaper than an ATV. Much cheaper. And that’s not all. Boots will get you there and back without all the ruckus and noise. Voila! They don’t disturb the wildlife for miles around.

I really believe, Mr. Martin, if you were to make such a change, in their own quiet way all flora and fauna in the forest would thank you.

And, please, no offense, but from the looks of you a little exercise might do you some good.
