SEDDON: Best choice for Zone 4
We place our support behind Ann Seddon for Zone 4 District No. 271 School Board Trustee. She approaches the position from many angles: years of volunteering in classrooms; engaging with teachers, parents and administrators; and reading and researching available information on issues. She is passionate about younger students solidly learning the basics needed to lead them to higher thinking/learning. As a retired teacher with a master’s degree in education, and as a professional tutor, Ann has unique insight and experience that is of significant value to our local board.
During the Forum at Mica Flats Grange, Ann answered questions with statistical facts and also information from her “hands on” work with local students. Ann gave accurate North Idaho College statistics showing 49 percent of recent Coeur d’Alene graduates need math remediation and 39 percent need reading/English remediation. Retired shop teacher, Mr. Eubanks, wrongly challenged these statistics and proceeded to simply “throw the children under the bus.” He offered no solutions, but suggested that our best and brightest high school graduates do NOT choose to attend NIC. This is false. WE personally know of many local scholars from Charter Academy, home school, private school and all regular local high schools who have chosen NIC.
What we need are answers, not more finger pointing or passing blame. Ann Seddon is the BEST choice to continue the hard work and problem solving necessary to address the issues and help local students prepare for the future. Vote for Ann Seddon on May 21.
