After marriage and family, he went to work for Kaiser Trentwood as a maintenance foreman and after 27 years, retired. During his last four years he worked for Kaiser at the Valeo Plant in Ghana, West Africa. Howard and Mavis traveled the world.

They settled in Post Falls and he built a home on the Spokane River; where they enjoyed many wonderful years together.
