Spend spring break skiing

Don't put your skis away just yet.

Thanks to recent snowfall, area ski resorts are still going strong and seasons have been extended as a result.

Lookout Pass was planning to close April 7, but is now looking at Saturday, April 13, as the final day.

"These are some of the best conditions we've seen all winter," said Phil Edholm, president and CEO of Lookout. "We're looking forward to a great weekend. We've got beautiful snow."

And skiers have responded in force.

Lookout set a record for the number of visitors in a season this season. As of Sunday, there had been 64,450 skier visits. The previous record was last season when there were 64,291.

The resort is open through Monday, April 4-7 and April 13.

Lookout has received 332 inches of snow this season. Current snow levels range from 81 to 138 inches.

Schweitzer has extended its final day from April 7 to April 14, making it open a week longer than it normally is.

"We've got great snow conditions and a pretty solid base," said Sean Briggs, spokesman.

The resort is open seven days a week, weather permitting.

Schweitzer has received 272 inches of snow. There are currently 139 inches at the summit and 91 inches at the base.

Silver Mountain plans to stay open with full operations and its regular season until Sunday, April 7. After that, it will remain open on Saturdays, weather permitting, beginning April 13.

The resort is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Silver Mountain had received 235 inches of snow this winter as of Tuesday. It had 16 inches over three days during a stretch last week. The snow level on Tuesday was 50 inches at the base and 87 inches at the summit.

"Conditions are absolutely fantastic with some of the best coverage of the year," said Neal Scholey, Silver Mountain's spokesman.
