TRUCKS: Weighing in on heavy issue

| March 15, 2013 9:33 PM

Our local senators, Republicans John Goedde, Bob Nonini and Steve Vick, all approved Senate Bill 1117 which allows extra-heavy trucks to travel Highway 95. I will assume these will be the triple trailers, crawling through the middle of Coeur d’Alene. Imagine being behind a pair of these trucks as they occupy both lanes heading north.

I’ve observed, on several occasions, logging trucks doing just that. Imagine what could happen on the curve at Walnut. Imagine who will pay for the damages to the highway. And wonder about the loyalties to his constituents as Bob Nonini states, “My scales tip toward industry.” He knows his local highway district, fire officials and other local governments oppose this bill. But locals don’t finance his campaign — special interests do.
