LIBRARY: Parking problem exposed

| March 6, 2013 8:33 PM

On Feb. 23, legislators descended upon CdA’s library for a meeting. This “business first” body once again demonstrated their lack of consideration for regular citizens by taking every parking spot set aside for library patrons and locking those spots up for the duration of their meeting.

As a disabled vet, I always find a close spot. After 10 minutes driving around not one spot opened up. Unable to walk the distance from the neighborhoods as many other patrons were forced to do that day, i gave up. I learned the next day that many folks were upset and that a previously unknown library parking lot [to me] below remained 75 percent empty and was available to them.

I wonder what makes these folks think they are so special they can inconvenience citizens at will? Are they really that lazy? The library of course cannot not tell them where to park, but can’t they at least post a sign informing patrons next time the legislators take over, telling us where else we could park? I know where they get their funding, but don’t the citizens come first at the library?
