LEVY: Invest in quality education

| March 6, 2013 8:33 PM

In a time when the “sky seems to be falling” with every turn of the page of the newspaper and tensions run high for every election season, I feel so compelled to ask for support for the Coeur d’Alene School District’s Maintenance and Operations levy on March 12th.

As a kindergarten parent, I was unnerved about what kinds of experiences our daughter would have in school. However, as the months go by and I have had the opportunity to volunteer in her classroom and school, our family is so very pleased by the high quality instruction and focus on each student’s needs. Sadly, this type of focused instruction has been provided on the backs of taxpayers as the funding from the state continues to drop. But, it is great that these monies are going towards programs that serve students and moreover, to know that this community values its schools and knows that our best chance for prosperity lies in the talents of our current students who are our future leaders.

Although the levy amount increases for one year only to invest in safety and security precautions, we feel that it is important to note that the district has maintained or lowered this levy amount over previous years and that the Coeur d’Alene School District consistently outperforms other large school districts in Idaho.

Because of the support that this levy will provide to students through aides, assistants, programs and activities as well as the benefit of added safety, I urge a yes vote on March 12th.
