IRONMAN: Rest of bike-boy story
I just wanted to thank Wendy Kilcoyne for the kind words that she wrote. (Ironmen Proof of real mettle June 26). I was the rider involved in the minor mishap on Lakeside Avenue. I can assure you that I am fine and I did indeed finish the race. I was greatly relieved the boy was not injured. In the end I guess my mom just raised me right and I am glad I had the presence of mind to conduct myself in a good sportsmanlike manner. I will let you know that my wife and I did this race; it was our first Ironman. We finished together hand in hand, and I would not trade anything for the memory.
It was a great day with a minor issue. I had thought the boy crossed with his dad, and it is his dad that I blame not the boy. Dad should know better. I was not happy with his response to his son after the incident, either. Anyhow, thank you again for the kind words. It truly meant a lot to me to read them. Thank you for being out there cheering us on; without the crowd and volunteers it would not have been an enjoyable journey.
